What it does. Releases oocytes and secretes oestrogen and progesterone.

Where it sits. Held by the ovarian ligament to the uterus and by the suspensory ligament to the pelvic wall.

  • The right member of the pair; ovulation alternates between the two rather than happening in both at once.
  • Ovulation is triggered by a surge of LH near the middle of the cycle, and only one ovum is released per cycle.
