  • Sits in the sella turcica, a bony cavity of the skull, and is attached to the hypothalamus by a stalk.
  • The anterior lobe secretes GH, PRL, TSH, ACTH, LH and FSH; the posterior lobe releases oxytocin and vasopressin, which are made in the hypothalamus.
  • Excess growth hormone in childhood gives gigantism and in an adult acromegaly; too little gives pituitary dwarfism.

Chapter numbering moved when NCERT rationalised its books in 2023 and the NTA has revised the NEET syllabus since, so this maps by unit and title. It is a study aid, not a syllabus.
