- The right lung has three lobes, the left only two, because the heart takes the space.
- Each lung is enclosed by a double-layered pleura with pleural fluid between, which reduces friction as the lung moves.
- Alveoli are the site of exchange and are thin-walled and richly supplied with capillaries; they are far below the scale of this model.
