- One on top of each kidney, with a central medulla and a surrounding cortex.
- The medulla makes adrenaline and noradrenaline — the emergency hormones of the fight-or-flight response.
- The cortex makes glucocorticoids such as cortisol, mineralocorticoids such as aldosterone, and small amounts of androgens.
