NEET points
Class 11 · Unit V · Human Physiology · Digestion and Absorption
- The largest gland in the body, about 1.2 to 1.5 kg in an adult.
- Hepatic lobules are its structural and functional units, each covered by a thin connective-tissue sheath.
- It secretes 700 to 1000 mL of bile a day. Bile contains no enzyme: bile salts emulsify fat, and bile pigments — bilirubin and biliverdin — are excretory products carried out with it.
- Bile also makes the intestinal medium alkaline and activates lipases.
Chapter numbering moved when NCERT rationalised its books in 2023 and the NTA has revised the NEET syllabus since, so this maps by unit and title. It is a study aid, not a syllabus.
